Hart State Recreation Outdoor Area

Hart State Recreation Outdoor Area is located three miles north of Hartwell off U.S. 29. The park has 76 tent and trailer sites on its 147 acres. The park hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.. The 147 acre area has 78 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites ($19-$26, some sewage hookups) The day-use boat ramp offers easy access to all water sports. For more information about Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area, call Richard B. Russell State Park at 706-213-2045. There are camp volunteers on site but no phone reservations are taken at this time.
Hart State Recreation Outdoor Area campsites will be by self-registration only.
To reserve a campsite on a first come, first serve basis. Once you arrive at the park's camping area there will be a lock box with envelops, similar to the ones in the parking areas for Park Pass fees. Simply enclose the appropriate fee in the envelop, place it in the lock box and proceed to your campsite.

Hart County Recreation Department

Hart County Recreation Department consists of 12+ acres of park facilities. Park facilities are open to the public and also available for rental for certain functions: contact the Hart County Recreation Department for more information. Facilities include: four ball fields, one multipurpose field, two large picnic shelters with attached playgrounds, three sets of tennis courts, two outdoor basketball goals, outdoor batting cages, multipurpose room, various programs and activities.

Camping

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages 9 campgrounds on Lake Hartwell with a total of 524 campsites. Many of these campgrounds feature amenities such as restrooms, showers, boat ramps, sanitary disposal stations, playgrounds, electric and water hook-ups, courtesy docks, group camping, and designated swimming areas. Seven of the campgrounds feature resident park attendants who register incoming campers, provide information, and ensure the campground is operated to provide the safest, most enjoyable experience for all visitors. Two Corps managed Group Camps are available at Lake Hartwell - Crescent and Milltown. Group Camps allow clubs, families, and friends to camp together in a common area for a reasonable fee.
