Visit Hartwell - Hart County on beautiful Lake Hartwell...

We invite you to come explore Hartwell's natural riches, cultural resources, southern hospitality, and historic spirit! For a weekend of relaxing, shopping downtown, water sports, or dinner on the town we have it all here!

Hart County was named after Nancy Hart, a local Revolutionary War heroine. It is the only county in Georgia named for a woman. She was born around 1747 Nancy Ann Morgan and later married Benjamin Hart. They obtained a 400-acre grant 25 miles southeast of Hartwell in 1771 and built a log cabin home.

Hart County is located midway between Atlanta , GA and Greenville , SC. The county has approximately 25,000 residents, and we enjoy a quality of life that is second to none. It has an ideal climate with an average annual temperature of 74°. The average summer temperature is 89°, and the winter average is 57°, with an average rainfall of about 49 inches a year. Interstate 85 bisects Lake Hartwell , making the area and all of its opportunities for water sports and outdoor recreation easily accessible to visitors.

Our community enjoys its 222 miles of shoreline on Lake Hartwell. It appeals to the weekend vacationer, boaters of all kinds, and the weekend angler. Go for a walk along the Hartwell Dam, swim one of our designated beach areas, or picnicking with your family and friends in one of the many public recreation locations surrounding the lake. Lake Hartwell is the third largest man-made lake in the Eastern United States, bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah River . Lake Hartwell comprises nearly 56,000 acres of water with a shoreline of 962 miles.

The town of Hartwell has lovely historic homes and a charming downtown shopping area. Shop our friendly merchants who offer something for all ages, and experience a variety of dining locations. Downtown has easily accessible parking, which allows for a great view, and a one stop shop experience for visitors.

Our community's citizens enjoy a wonderful balance derived from tourism on beautiful Lake Hartwell, agriculture, and vibrant commercial and industrial growth.
