  • Hart County is an outdoor paradise just waiting to be explored. From Camping along the shores of Lake Hartwell at one of our many campgrounds, boating, swimming or picnicking in one of our 5 day use recreation areas, running along the Hartwell Dam, hunting in one of our preserves, swimming at the YMCA or watching a local baseball game at one of our two County recreation parks, there is always something to do to keep active and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Big Oaks Recreation Area on Hartwell Dam - OPEN Year Round
    located 1 mile past the Savannah River/Lake Hartwell Dam on the GA side or 5 miles from Hartwell, GA.
    Playground, picnic area, restrooms, boat ramp and facilities for handicapped. Small visitor’s Center, where you can request to watch a short informative film on the building of the dam.

    Kids can ride bikes and you can walk dogs on a leash.

     

  • Paynes Creek Campground

    This campground is located on the Tugaloo River arm of Hartwell Lake in Hart Co., Georgia. Paynes Creek offers a total of 44 sites with water and electric hook-ups (50-amp service). 37 of those sites are waterfront! Shower/restroom facilities are conveniently located throughout the park as are the following amenities: dump station, playgrounds, swim beaches, courtesy dock, and boat ramp. Many sites are private with heavy vegetation growing between sites. A new SORBA 9.5 mile hiking/bicycling trail is easily accessible from the campground.  Reservations can be made on this website: Click Here

    Swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing on Lake Hartwell are prime reasons to visit Hartwell Lakeside in northeast Georgia. Large mouth bass, hybrid bass, striper, black crappie, bream, rainbow trout and wall-eyed pike can be found in the sparkling waters of this 55,590-acre reservoir. The park’s boat ramps and docks offer easy access to all water sports. Visitors can also enjoy hiking/biking trails and a children’s playground.

    Boat ramp, courtesy dock, restrooms, picnic area, playgrounds, volleyball court, swimming beaches and handicapped facilities.

  • Gum Branch Park and Mega Ramp - OPEN Year Round
    On Vanna Waller Road, off Old Hwy 29. This fishing facility is perfect for fishing tournaments and special events. It has 7 launch ramps, a 20 tie up T-Dock, parking for 150 boat trailers, a 50x50 ft. pavilion, bathrooms and picnic tables.   • Long Point Recreation Area 
    Located at the end of Old Hwy 29. This park is loaded with sandy beaches, a designated swimming area, kids playgrounds, pavilions, and plenty of parking.

    Join us on the Saturday before July 4th to see the Annual Fireworks display!

    Tennis, playgrounds, basketball goals, batting cages, picnic shelters and baseball/softball fields. Kids of all ages can sign up to play in the many sports leagues that are offered at the Hart County Recreation Department.
