Georgia's Top Ag County Hosts State and Federal Leaders for Northeast Georgia Ag Update

HARTWELL, Ga. — Nearly 80 farmers from Hart, Franklin, Elbert, and surrounding counties gathered Thursday, July 9th at the Hart County Agriscience Center for the Northeast Georgia Ag Update, an evening of conversation between local farmers and state and federal officials.

Speakers included Georgia Senator Drew Echols of Jaemor Farms, Georgia House Representative Alan Powell, and Georgia Farm Bureau State Affairs Manager Adam Bellflower. Also in attendance were State Representative Rob Leverette and Gary Ziesenhene, field director and representative for the office of U.S. Representative Mike Collins, along with additional representatives from local offices.

The event was held at the Hart County Agriscience Center, part of the Hart County Charter System, which gives students a dedicated space to raise animals and participate in agriculture programs, shows, and exhibitions throughout the year, including the county's annual Ag Expo each August.

The turnout reflects the region's standing in the state's most recent Georgia Farm Gate Value Report. Hart County ranked No. 1 in the state for total agricultural value at $665.3 million, followed closely by Franklin County at $661.4 million. Madison County ranked among the state's top five counties with a total ag value of $445 million. Elbert County ranked 8th in the state for poultry and egg production, valued at $248.9 million.

The event was made possible by Hart County Farm Bureau, Hart County Schools, and the UGA Archway Partnership.
