Ready, Get Set, It’s Small Business Season!
November 02, 2026
The holidays are right around the corner, and that means it's time to celebrate Small Business Season! You've probably heard of Small Business Saturday, but we think our local businesses deserve more than just one day of recognition. That's why we're celebrating Small Business Season from November 1st through December 31st, encouraging everyone to think local throughout the holiday season.
This year's theme is "It's the Thought That Counts," and we think that's a pretty good way to look at supporting small businesses.
When you think about the holidays, you probably think about shopping for gifts. But there's so much more that goes into making the season special. There's the restaurant where your family gathers for dinner, the salon getting you ready for a holiday party, the business helping you find that perfect gift, and the many local services that make our busy lives a little easier.
These are the businesses we count on all year long, and the holidays are a great opportunity to show them some extra appreciation.
A Little Thought Goes a Long Way
Shopping local doesn't have to mean spending more money or buying something you don't need. Sometimes it's simply thinking about where you're spending the money you already planned to spend.
Before ordering that gift online, take a look at what our local shops have to offer. Planning a holiday dinner? Consider one of our local restaurants or caterers. Need a gift for someone who already has everything? Think about experiences, services, and gift certificates from businesses right here in Hart County.
And don't forget that supporting small businesses doesn't always require spending money. Sharing a business's social media post, recommending them to a friend, or leaving a positive review can make a difference, too.
Small businesses are a big part of what makes Hart County feel like home. They're also the people sponsoring our community events, supporting local organizations, providing jobs, and giving back throughout the year.
When we support them, we're supporting our community.
For Our Small Business Owners: Let's Make the Most of the Season!
Small Business Season isn't just about encouraging people to shop locally. It's also an opportunity for our businesses to remind customers what they have to offer.
The holidays can be a busy time, and a little planning now can help you make the most of the weeks ahead.
1. Give People Some Ideas
We all know someone who's impossible to shop for. Help your customers out!
Think about the products, services, or experiences your business offers that would make a great holiday gift. Don't assume everyone already knows what you sell or what you can do.
Maybe you offer gift certificates, personalized items, holiday packages, or services that would make someone's life easier. Share those ideas!
And remember, people aren't just shopping for gifts. They're planning parties, hosting family, decorating their homes, and getting ready for a busy season. Think about how your business can help with those things, too.
2. Make It Easy to Shop With You
If someone hears about your business and wants to make a purchase, can they easily find what they need?
Now is a great time to double-check your business hours, contact information, website, and social media pages. If you have special holiday hours, ordering deadlines, or seasonal offerings, make sure people know about them.
And don't forget your Hart County Chamber business directory listing! It's another way people can find your business, so make sure your information is current.
A few minutes spent updating these details can save both you and your customers some frustration during the holiday rush.
3. Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
The holidays have a way of sneaking up on all of us, but businesses have an opportunity to get ahead of the rush.
Think about what your customers might need throughout November and December.
If you offer personalized gifts, remind customers about ordering deadlines early. If you provide services that require appointments, encourage people to book ahead. If you're a restaurant, start sharing your holiday catering options or group dining availability.
As Christmas gets closer, shift your focus to last-minute gifts, gift certificates, and ways you can help customers finish their holiday preparations.
You don't have to post something every day, but staying visible and giving customers useful reminders can go a long way.
4. Work Together
One of the things we love about our local business community is the opportunity for businesses to support one another.
Think about ways you could partner with another business this holiday season.
A local shop and restaurant could put together a gift package. A photographer and framing business could help customers create a meaningful gift. Two businesses could team up for a giveaway or a special holiday promotion.
Sometimes a simple introduction can lead to a great idea.
And if there's another business you'd like to connect with, let us know! Helping our members build relationships is part of what we're here for.
5. Remember That Word of Mouth Still Matters
Not everyone has extra money to spend during the holidays, and that's okay. There are plenty of ways people can support local businesses without making a purchase.
Encourage your happy customers to leave reviews, share your posts, and tell their friends about their experiences.
As a business owner, you can do the same for other local businesses. Recommend your favorite places, share their events, and consider local vendors when you're making purchases for your own business.
A little support can go a long way, especially in a community like ours.
It's the Thought That Counts
Over the next several weeks, the Hart County Chamber of Commerce will be sharing ideas, reminders, and encouragement to help everyone make the most of Small Business Season.
Our goal isn't to tell you that every purchase has to be made locally. We know that's not always possible. We simply want to encourage everyone to think local first and give our small businesses the opportunity to earn your business.
Maybe that means finding a gift at a shop you've never visited, trying a restaurant you've been meaning to check out, or recommending a local service to someone who needs it.
And if you're a business owner, think about how you can make the holidays a little easier, more convenient, or more memorable for your customers.
Our small businesses do a lot for Hart County throughout the year. Let's spend this season showing them just how much they're appreciated.
It's the thought that counts. Let's make those thoughts count right here at home!
