Join Savannah River Productions and celebrate America’s 250th Independence anniversary with the musical 1776. Performances are Friday June 26th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday June 27th at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday June 28th at 3:00 p.m.
With quick-witted dialogue and a playful score, 1776 dramatizes the impassioned debates of Philadelphia’s Second Continental Congress. As George Washington sends updates from the military front, patriots John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson attempt to persuade the 13 colonies to separate from British rule. Motivated by a series of abuses from King George, America’s first politicians forge a new democracy by composing the Declaration of Independence. Based on the letters and memoirs of America’s founding fathers, this classic, Tony Award-winning musical showcases the principles, pride and determination that influenced the birth of our nation.
The cast includes Glynn Segars (John Adams), Seth Howard (Benjamin Franklin), Isaac Beckner (Thomas Jefferson), Brian Freeman (John Dickinson), Robert Wilson (Edward Rutledge), Jim McCollough (Richard Henry Lee), Virgil Hobbs (John Hancock), Nick Goss (Secretary Charles Thomson), Lexie Partain (Abigail Adams), Laura Beth Beckner (Martha Jefferson), as well as 20 other members of the Continental Congress. It is directed by Kay Legg with Andrea Bradford as musical director.
Presented during the Pre-Fourth 250th-anniversary festivities, this special staging invites
audiences to experience the story of America’s founding and is a perfect addition for the holiday weekend. Come experience 1776 reimagined with a cast as dynamic as America itself. Perfect for history buffs, musical lovers, and patriots of all stripes.
