Cars & Guitars Festival Brings Out the Best in Hart County

The Cars & Guitars Festival car show finally had its day on Saturday, September 5th, and the sweltering heat definitely kept some folks away.

The show was originally scheduled for Memorial Day weekend back in May, but rain forced a reschedule. As it turns out, most car owners will take a heat wave over a rainy day any time, and heat is exactly what they got. Heat indexes climbed to 106 degrees at the peak of the afternoon, and turnout was down at least 50 cars from a normal year. Still, over 100 vehicles registered for a spot on the show field.

Crowds died down after lunch as folks looked for a break from the heat, but that gave our crew room to do something special. Winners were encouraged to bring their winning cars to the "winner's circle" at the stage area and show them off. Ten People's Choice awards and sixteen judged awards were handed out throughout the day, celebrating everything from classic paint jobs to modern builds. And once again, David Thompson drove home with another Best in Show award, adding to an already impressive collection.
