• City of Hartwell Celebrated with 2026 Visionary City Award

Hartwell, Georgia – The City of Hartwell is proud to be named as a 2026 Visionary City Award honoree, presented by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) in collaboration with Georgia Trend. The award recognizes initiatives that demonstrate thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

Selected in the Small Cities Category, Hartwell was honored for StartUP Hart, an innovative economic development program focused on empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs. Developed in partnership with Georgia Power’s CREATE program, the Hartwell Downtown Development Authority, the Hartwell Main Street Program, the Hart County Chamber of Commerce, and the Hart County Charter School System. The initiative connects students with educators, business leaders, and civic partners to turn ideas into viable local businesses.

Larry Hanson, CEO and executive director of GMA, said, “Hartwell’s investment in young entrepreneurs shows how education, collaboration, and economic development can work together to build a strong local future. StartUP Hart is creating opportunities that benefit both students and the community as a whole.”

“We have been looking for opportunities as a Main Street Program to connect our young people to our downtown. Thanks to our partners at Georgia Power, the DDA, the Chamber of Commerce, and Hart County High School, we have created connection through entrepreneurship. I want to especially thank the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center, and our local mentors who have helped guide these students. I especially want to thank Bray List from the Hart County College and Career Academy.”
