Hartwell, GA – The shores of Lake Hartwell were buzzing with excitement this past weekend as 96 teams from across the region competed in the Skeeter Bass Challenge, held May 3–4 at Gum Branch Mega Ramp.
Taking home the top prize were Hayden Seabolt and Cooper McDonald, who landed a winning total of 36.14 pounds of bass over the two-day event. The tournament brought in over 200 anglers and guests, providing a welcome economic boost to the Hartwell area.
But the event almost didn’t have the dock space it needed until a last-minute save. Just one day before the tournament, the much-awaited new dock was installed at Gum Branch, thanks to the swift action of Terrell Partain and the Hart County Board of Commissioners. Their quick response and willingness to work with the Hart County Chamber of Commerce ensured that the event went off without a hitch, highlighting the importance of fishing tournaments to the local economy.
“This event really showcased the strength of our fishing community and the hospitality of Hartwell,” said Amanda Brown, President of the Hart County Chamber of Commerce. “We were thrilled to welcome so many visitors to town and are so grateful for our county leaders who stepped up to make it happen.”
Special thanks also go to David Freeman of Boating Atlanta for selecting Gum Branch as the launch site. With its top-notch facilities and access to one of the Southeast’s premier lakes, Gum Branch continues to be a favorite for major fishing tournaments.
